 At the age of 9 years old one of my sisters showed me how to sew a straight line shortly thereafter I figured out curved lines and circles. So, within 20 minutes I was “making” my Barbie clothes without a pattern and a very big learning curve! LOL

I quickly learned about one arm longer than the other and to compensate for a small neck vs the Barbie’s head size! At the age of 11 years old I made my own square dance dress.

At the age of 10 my oldest sister taught me how to knit. However, it wasn’t until high school that I did learn to crochet and other hand sewing skills in homec classes.

As time moved on, my sewing machine became my creative force especially for my children’s Halloween costumes.

In 2003, the dance teacher found out I could sew… 

Sewing and designing ballet costumes became a new creative avenue! It started with 4 costumes in the ballet Coppelia. 

At the age of 9 years old, one of my sisters taught me how to sew a straight line… 20 minutes later I was “making” my Barbie doll clothes… with lots of trial and error.  I quickly learned about one arm longer than the other and to compensate for the difference of the size of Barbie’s head vs the size of Barbie’s neck! 

At the age of 11 years old I made my own square dance dress. And in 7th grade I flunked sewing class. The instructions were to either sew the seam edges of all the seams or use pinking shears to trim the seam edges. I chose to “pink” the seams edges. (The fabric I was using was a wide corduroy. It is very difficult to see the “pinked” edges on this fabric!) 

As time moved on, my sewing machine became my creative force especially for my children’s Halloween and book report costumes.  In 2003 my daughter’s dance director asked if I would make 4 specific costumes for their recital of Coppelia. Sewing and designing ballet costumes became a new creative avenue!  My side business was started! 

I’ve been the costume mistress for the Statesboro Community Ballet annual Nutcracker for six years. I’ve been the costume mistress for some of Statesboro Community Theater, Statesboro Children’s Community Theater and Valdosta Community Theater productions. In addition to these productions, I’ve designed and sewn many individual costumes, wedding dresses and widow treatments.

In 2010 after a long distance move, I turned my sewing business towards household craft shows.

At the age of 10 years old my oldest sister taught me how to knit. It wasn’t until high school home economics classes that I learned how to crochet. In 2015 a few days before my husband’s 9 day stay in the hospital, I picked up some yarn, a crochet hook and a crochet blanket pattern. Ten years later many blankets and other crocheted creations have been added to my small business product line.

Now that I have had to retired I find myself needing to stay busy, at my pace.
